Monologue

Character: 1 male

When an unfamiliar face appears in Hide Four one morning and starts passing around his mint imperials, there is much excitement and speculation. However, as he begins to visit the nature reserve more regularly, the stalwart twitchers learn his name is Brendan and he is welcomed into the clique. Soon a friendship begins to blossom over the ham and piccalilli sandwiches and it isn’t long before Rodney and Brendan have become firm friends. They spend more and more time together, and as the weeks pass, strange feelings are woken in Rodney that he has never experienced before.

Character List

Rodney Culpepper, a mild-mannered, timid twitcher

He wears a knitted jumper, peaked cap, waterproof trousers, walking boots and an anorak – all in green, brown, muted colours.

He is bookish, likes routine and can be fussy and particular. His occasional enthusiasm or excitement over a rare bird-sighting is a complete contrast to his usual monotone delivery.
