The Snow Queen

Pantomime Script

Snow Queen Title

Characters: 16 featured roles, principals & supporting + junior chorus
Running Time: Approx 2hrs 15mins

The action is set in a little town called Tottering-on-the-Brink, the Snow Queen’s fortress in the Frozen Wasteland and Twisted Twig Wood in the Kingdom of Gloriana.

Fragments of an evil enchanted mirror are scattered across the globe to prevent them from being found. The enchanted mirror is contaminated and shows a distorted, ugly view of the world. The ground dust from these fragments, when blown into the eyes of a kind-hearted person, freezes their heart and creates an endless winter. Cryogenica, the wicked Snow Queen, gets hold of one of these fragments and seeks out the kindest person in the land, a boy called Kay Merryweather. She finds him and, without hesitation, freezes his heart and kidnaps him. Kay’s sister, Gerda, soon discovers what has happened and, together with a band of faithful friends, embarks on a perilous rescue mission to save her brother and to free the world from an endless winter.

“The story was ingenious. A fairy tale for a modern audience. A tale to reflect the changing attitudes, a moral story for young and old, where the girl is strong and independent, the love of family, friendship, and honouring each other with tolerance, are key to the whole adventure. Other themes were caring for the community and the environment. What a wonderful opportunity and I am very envious of the talents of your writer, Kei Bailey, who managed to create a script with all these elements and more.”
