The action is set in and around Thomas Kingsley Academy, a secondary school in a small town called Dimdale.

When bookish loner Cornelia Cropper discovers one of her classmates’ descendants was a witch, she sets about proving Amber Grigsby has inherited her ancestor’s talents for witchcraft. Soon the two teenage girls and their friend, Edwin, are planning to bring down the school bullies with the help of Amber’s new found power. However, it isn’t long before a spell backfires, the magic gets out of hand and they realise being the most popular is not always the easiest position. This is a story about friendships, peer pressure and learning that life is not always fair, or simple.
