It’s 1975, and the staff at the Last Resort Hotel are welcoming weekend guests to their damp, isolated corner of the British countryside with Martini Rosso and sausages on sticks. Amongst the arrivals is Olive Gripewater, a cantankerous, unpleasant woman with a particularly long list of enemies. When she is found dead with a cleaver embedded between her shoulder blades, there is no shortage of suspects.

Enter Miss Phyllis Brisket, a crime novelist who has conveniently checked into the hotel’s deluxe suite hours earlier. With the assistance of her flamboyant friend, Everard, a theatre producer with a flair for the dramatic and a suitcase full of crushed velvet, Miss Brisket decides to turn her hand to some real-life sleuthing and vows to solve the case.

With no phone line, no escape and no end to the shag pile carpet, the race is on for Miss Brisket to unravel the tangled web of secrets and lies and identify the murderer before they strike again.
