The Quest for Lord Qubble’s Custard
Scriptwriter
Like all the other hundreds of amateur and professional theatre companies across the UK, in March 2020, Heckington Players found themselves facing a very uncertain future when the country was put into lockdown. Their programme of productions was put on hold and, as the weeks went by, the society began to explore other avenues of creativity which included radio plays and online productions using Zoom. When the weeks turned into months, it became clear that their popular annual pantomime looked unlikely to happen so the committee took the decision to make a film to be released at the same time as panto would normally be performed. It was to be filmed throughout Lincolnshire in the late Summer and early Autumn of 2020, when the easing restrictions meant that groups of six could meet outside. I was asked to write the script and the result was a fantasy adventure called ‘The Quest for Lord Quibble’s Custard’, a comedy suitable for all the family.
The story is set in the strange and wonderful Kingdom of Nonsensica and follows two pairs of eccentric characters as they travel across the land on a quest to discover the secret of Lord Quibble’s Custard. In the Trembling Hills in the North of the Kingdom, an apprentice witch, called Maud, and her new garden gnome friend, Flossie, set off on their journey under the instruction of a power-hungry witch called Griselda Clawsprocket. On the other side of the Kingdom, beyond the Turtle Lagoons, Troll Queen Rancidium, in her pursuit for supreme world domination, sends her two most loyal troll servants, Dunknuckle and Muggoob, out on a similar mission. Along the way, the heroes meet an array of colourful and bizarre individuals.
